Is the (political) world ready for “Addressable TV”?

February 19, 2014

We are.  But what is “Addressable TV”?  Couple of recent articles on this that you can read HERE and HERE.  Basically this would give campaigns new tools to target ads directly to households.  We’ve been talking about this a lot since the last campaigns ended – date and technology moving us forward in every aspect of messaging.  And this latest announcement is pretty exciting, but a few things before we get ahead of ourselves.  First the service isn’t even available yet, supposed to be in March through DISH and DirecTV in certain markets.  Cable networks are there yet, but the word is that they may not be far behind.  So hopefully this will be useable in many campaigns by the summer or this fall.  But what does it mean?  To us it means, we can be more and more cost efficient and targeted at delivering our messages.  We talk a lot about data-driven campaigns and this evolving technology is exactly why.  Every aspect of the campaign can and should be working together off the same data-driven plan – from targets to testing; finance to grassroots – data is the key.  Advancements like this – once they are fine tuned – will help the campaign be more efficient and effective in driving messages.  We will talk more about this in the months ahead as we hopefully get to use it in some of our races.

Really? Dems Do It Better!?!?

February 10, 2014

This is a really good story from Roll Call for any campaign that will find be flooded with advertisements from outside groups. A lot of times these groups come in with heavy (ahem)… contrast spots, so you don’t see much candidate footage from the candidate they are supportive of. But when they do have a positive spot, the Democrats have shown themselves to be much better at publicly “providing” useable (and preferred) b-roll type footage. In some cases, having good footage can make all the difference between a good/compelling spot focused on a helpful message versus a crappy, poorly produced spot that does nothing to move the ball forward. Some campaigns we are involved with do post of selects but it’s really up to the outside groups to be looking for them. This article shows, the Democrat side knows to look, may not so on the Republican side.

John Thune: Dems can run but can’t hide from Obamacare Vote.

February 4, 2014

Our good friend Senator John Thune has an interesting column on Breitbart looking at how Democrats are running away from Obamacare, but they can’t hide from their vote. It’s a good read if you have a couple minutes.
